my unique process of Mixed Media Encaustic hand colored photographs

Encaustic Mixed Media Photography

In some of my Fine Art Travel Photography I’ve enhanced my images by using an Encaustic process. This method refers to applying hot beeswax over a photographic image. After applying the wax, I paint on top of the wax with pastels to further enhance my photographs to look more like paintings. Beeswax and resin are ancient ingredients from nature, I blend old and new to create an original work of art. The vintage hues and textures reflect the life force of the architecture and the history of the location.

This technique is a perfect match with my classic style of photography. I’m attracted to the form and elegance of objects when there balanced. I love the feeling of waiting for that perfect moment, flawless lighting, then pressing the shutter to steal away a thrilling experience that I can share with others. Photographs from Europe were perfect for this technique.  This classic vintage look enhanced the feeling of Europe’s beauty and historic architecture.

This technique goes hand and hand with my style of photography.  My style would best be described as classic.  I have always been attracted to the form and elegance of objects when they are balanced within a photograph.

I love the feeling of waiting for that perfect moment, pressing the shutter and sharing my experiences, telling stories.  I believe spontaneity and simplicity is important for achieving this.

Encaustic Mixed Media Photographs need to be special ordered and takes up to one month to complete. I can use this process on any of the images within my gallery up to 24 x 36 inches in size.
